Nov 28 – Crafts on Peel x Waa Faa Cii: Song Dynasty Flower Arrangement in Bamboo Cylinder Vase

In the realm of IMAGINE THE ‘IM’POSSIBILITIES: BAMBOO, Crafts on Peel partners with Waa Faa Cii to present Song Dynasty Flower Arrangement in Bamboo Cylinder Vase for you to enjoy the elegance of cultural leisure. There are six basic containers in Chinese floral arrangement – tray, bowl, bottle, vat, basket and cylinder. The florist – Ms Chu will elaborate the concept of Chinese flower arrangement and stories about bamboo cylinders in the workshop. Participants will learn to practice with techniques of Kenzan (metal flower frog) and Sa (natural flower frog made with twig) in an authentic way.

Chinese flower arrangement is a traditional craft and has had a long history of 1,500 years. The history of cylinder vases could be traced back from Emperor Li Yu’s Five Dynasties period; it was widespread in the Northern Song Dynasty. The contour of Chinese floristry depends on the conformation of natural scenery and plants, and is a minute model of nature. In lieu of simply employing graceful, lively elements, blossoms and wood materials, other involved bodies may include rocks and withered trees. It is about the art of expansion in space, the amplification of the law of nature, and the alignment of structures.

Arranging flowers is a direct and instant means of realizing the art of living. Through the workshop, participants are brought back to the sense of belonging to nature and a gentle touch of subtle delicacy. The admission fee has included the materials, a vase and presentation notes.
